Nike Japan and our friends at W+K Tokyo asked the team at BUCK to create spots that would tell the stories of up-and-coming stars of the Japan women's football national team. The players featured in this campaign are all individuals with unique stories about the challenges they faced entering the world of football. The campaign was part of a broader global strategy from Nike, in the lead up to the FIFA Women's World Cup in 2023.
This spot was based on striker Mina Tanaka and her journey of overcoming self-doubt through determination and perseverance. Using a mix of animation and live action, the spot featured a colourful textural style that contrasted with the starkness and austerity of the White Flag. It was an absolute pleasure to be able to craft the live-action section to really showcase Mina's talents.
I had the privilege of editing the spot along with animating a few shots with the incredibly talented team at BUCK.
